NOTICE OF EXAMINATION GENERAL LABORER/SKILLED LABORER
The City of Bucyrus will conduct a Civil Service examination for a General/Skilled Laborer in the Streets/Service/Solid Waste/Water Distribution/Park Maintenance Departments to establish an eligibility list for immediate openings. These positions are with full benefits and OPERS. The starting rate of pay is $19.55 per hour. Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, and a valid driver's license. A Class B CDL is a requirement and must be obtained within six months of the hire date. (After the six (6) months probationary period, the city will pay for the Class B CDL license.)
Job responsibilities include:
- Perform general manual labor
- Operate equipment including but not limited to chain saws, leaf machine, weed eaters, push mowers, riding mowers, seal machines, air hammer, air compressor, chippers, and cut-off saw.
- Ability to work with small hand tools and power tools
- Operate a one-ton truck with a snow plow
- Emptying trash containers
- Painting of street markings
- Pick up solid waste
- Be able to work independently and multi-task
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors during all seasons
- Other duties assigned by Foreman or Service-Safety Director

Department Overview
Bucyrus has a progressive and pro-active department working in a community oriented policing system. We are seeking candidates with a strong desire to enter into and excel in the law enforcement profession emphasizing courtesy and integrity. We have one school resource officer, a K9 unit, detective bureau, participate in county wide Special Response Team and regional task forces. Bucyrus Police Officers respond to approximately 12,000 calls for service per year. We collaborate with local organizations and projects such as Neighborhood Watch, METRICH and Safety Town, among others.
Area Information: The Bucyrus Police Department serves the City of Bucyrus, the county seat of Crawford County, and the home of the Bratwurst Festival. The City of Bucyrus has a population of approximately 12,000 people and an area of 12 square miles. The Bucyrus Police Department is in excellent standing with our community and has excellent community support. Bucyrus is located 60 miles north of Columbus and 90 minutes South of Cleveland and Toledo. The Department has an authorized strength of 22 sworn officers, plus civilian employees.

Job Requirements
Age: Age 21 at time of appointment and not yet 41 by date of appointment.
US Citizen: Yes.

College: Preferred but not required.
Extra Credit: 20% extra credit will be given for military service with an honorable discharge and also for possession of an Ohio Peace Officer basic training certificate. Copies of the Ohio Peace Officers Training certificate or a letter from an academy showing the candidate has passed the state test, and/or a DD214 from the military must be submitted with the application.
Academy Certification: Ohio Police Officer Basic Training Certificate is preferred. Applicants who do not possess an Ohio Basic Police Officer certificate may be eligible to be sent to the police academy by the City. Candidates who don’t yet have the basic police academy must meet all entry requirements of the basic police training academy selected by the City of Bucyrus. Applicants who are attending a basic training academy may also apply.
Schooling Prior and Post Hiring: Must be able to maintain Continuing Education Requirements annually as required by Ohio Law and the Police Division.

Physical Fitness Testing
Physical Fitness test date will be Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 9:00 A.M. at Bucyrus High School 900 West Perry St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 The Bucyrus Police recruit physical fitness test battery is from the Cooper Institute. The four test areas are listed below;
- 300 Meter Run (Anaerobic Power, Sprinting Ability),
- 1 RM Bench Press (Muscular Strength, Upper Body),
- 1-minute Sit Ups (Muscular Endurance, Core Body),
- 1-minute Push Ups (Muscular Endurance, Upper Body)
The Scoring system used for the testing will be Age and Gender Norms. Prior to testing, participating recruits will submit to the city a signed Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire. A recruit answering yes to one or more questions on the Physical Activity Readiness
Questionnaire will need to submit a completed Physician's Statement form signed by physician or nurse practitioner. (Forms are in City application for employment) The following scores list the 50 percent mark for each test. All four test scores are based on age & gender. An average score of 50 percent from the four tests is required to pass the physical test.

To determine your bench press ratio, take what you benched using free weights and use the formulas below.
Males - (Free weight 1 rep max x 1.016) + 18.41= 1RM 1RM divided by your body weight equals Bench press ratio.
Females - (Free weight 1 rep max x .848) + 21.37 = 1RM 1RM divided by your body weight equals Bench press ratio.
Your final score on the Fitness test is based on each test, each test is worth a max of 5 points with a max of 20 points be awarded after completion of all test. Scoring 50 percent on each test would only award the recruit 4 points. Complete each test at the best of your ability to achieve the best score.

Must be able to pass an in-depth background investigation, psychological examination, polygraph, physical and vision testing
Must possess a valid Ohio Peace Officers Basic Training certificate or an academy letter of basic training enrollment with date of expected academy completion and certification by time of hire based on Civil Service guidelines. Applicants can also claim extra credit for military service. Copies of the Ohio Peace Officers Training certificate or academy letter and a certificate of satisfactory military service or honorable discharge must be submitted with the application.

- For making false statements of material fact in the application, testing process or during any part of the hiring process and for use, threatened use or attempt in using political influence in securing employment.
Driving Disqualifiers: Must be insurable under the City of Bucyrus insurance carrier.

9. Monitors alarm panels.
10. Performs Deputy Clerk of Court procedures involving setting and taking bonds and accepting payment of citations.
11. Controls access to the Communications Unit.
12. Participates in required training courses.
13. Monitors video security equipment.
14. Female Communications Operators perform matron duties in the absence of a female Police Officer.
15. Operates Law Enforcement Automated Data Systems (LEADS) equipment.
16. Serves as Terminal Agency Coordinator (T.A.C.) as designated.
17. Uses a computer-aided dispatching system to assist in determining closest police/fire response.
18. Contacts designated wrecker services as directed by officers.

Operator to establish an eligibility list for an immediate opening. This job is a position
with full benefits and PERS pension plan. The starting rate of pay ranges from $20.07
per hour to $22.14 per hour. Additional pay for certification/license is available. If hired
for the position without having an operator license, must be able to obtain a Class 1
operator license within 18 months.
Job responsibilities include:
*Working various shifts/schedules to fill in for other operators
*Make daily inspections of all equipment
*Collect and analyze water samples and other chemical tests
*Backwash sand filters
*Keep daily logs of shift operations
* Read charts and meters
*Be able to unload bulk chemicals
